Hinged Glass Tops

Hinged Glass Tops A view into the left half on the canopy shows two of the hinged glass tops. The one on the right is open. The one on the left has a black plastic part at the back, which has been jigsawed for the return pipe from the pumps. I use the back of the tops over the background for storage of food and various tools and supplies.

Upon Glasscages strong recommendation I purchased their hinged glass tops with the tank, and I have never regretted this decision. In fact, I would consider the hinged glass tops a must-have with any tank from Glasscages, and they are a steal for the price. They cover the tank perfectly when closed, but can open up so nicely with the canopy in place that I have never seen the need to remove the whole canopy since setting the tank up more than two years ago. My tank has three cross braces, and four hinged tops covering the spaces between them. The front of each of them can be flapped up due to the hinging, to allow for feeding and minor maintenance. If you need to reach the back of the tank, the top can either slide forward after the front part has been flapped up, or removed altogether. The rear 6" of two of the tops (the one on the very left and right of the tank) consists of plastic, not glass, which allows you to remove parts using e.g. a jig saw so that hoses can be fed through, or HOB filters can be installed - if one was inclined to disgrace one's tank with such a contraption.
