240G Fish

Introduction

I set out to turn this tank into a Lake Tanganyika community setup, but like so many people, I had some difficulties on deciding which kind of fish to choose. I wanted fish that would tolerate a low tech planted setup, and also make suitable use of the space provided, that is fish that I couldn't have kept easily in a 75G. In the end I decided to try frontosa with a range of smaller tank mates, well knowing that the fronts might eventually dig up my plants as well as eat some of the smaller fish. I was hoping that by introducing the fronts when very little, they would get used to having the plants and fish around - and those other tank inhabitants also would have the chance to establish themselves before the fronts grew up. Now, two years down the line, I can say that my approach has worked very well so far, but of course the frontosa are still all babies. I will certainly have to thin the herd over time, and with the active cichlid keeping community at hand that NE Ohio enjoys, I feel confident that I will be able to make the necessary stocking alterations as and when the need arises.
