240G Decorations

One corner of my real rock background Rock background completed, but neither substrate nor water have been added to the tank yet.

Introduction

This section discusses decorations used in my 240G Lake Tanganyika community setup. Please don't be too disappointed, but you won't find any pirate ships or treasure chests with bubble wands! My aim in all of my show tanks is to create a natural look. However, while I try to stick with fish from the same environment, I am not much of a purist when it comes to using plants and decorations from that biotope as well. The plants are discussed in their own section, and for decorations for this tank I limited myself to black T-grade 3M Color Quartz as substrate, and Ohio top rock - a type of sandstone material - for both caves and background. Since Lake Tanganyika contains only negligible amounts of driftwood, and its fish are not used to appreciable concentrations of tannins and humic acids in the water, I did not use driftwood in this tank, although I find decorating with it a lot easier than with just rocks, and the results are usually more pleasing. Nevertheless, I believe my pure rock decoration scheme has worked out quite well.
